On October 9th, SIL hosted the first Ethiopia Soybean Kick-Off Event at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in collaboration with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR).
The Ethiopia Soybean Kick-Off Event brought together researchers, agricultural development organizations, extension agents, and private industry to showcase new technologies and innovations to help improve soybean yields in Ethiopia. Attendees witnessed the performance of soybean varieties under different growing conditions and input combinations, had the opportunity to see mechanization demonstrations from the Jimma Agriculture Research Center and the Melkassa Research Center, and learned about utilizing soy for human nutrition. Attendees also enjoyed a soy-enhanced lunch catered by JARC. The event featured panels of experts and industry professionals addressing the barriers to soil fertility and grain quality in Ethiopian soy production.
